Instant Message for Confluence
How I designed and built live, ephemeral chat inside Atlassian products in 24 hours for ShipIt — and got praised by the co-founder.
Instant Message was an idea I hatched for Atlassian's bi-annual hackathon event ShipIt.
It's the answer to a question I found myself asking: why do conversations about work happen outside of where the work happens? And how will that impact the quality of our AI? As a solution we built live, ephemeral, avatar-based chat in Confluence.
In 24 hours, with a team of 6, we designed, prototyped, and built Instant Message.
Check out our hype video:
While we did not win, we were happy to have placed 24th out of 700+ submissions.
The idea and video execution was widely praised, including by Atlassian's co-founder, Scott Farquhar, who we were selected to consult with before the submission deadline.
I still believe workplace conversation could be completely evolved to more appropriately match the pace and patterns of an AI-first world.
